How to Set Up Rendition in FL Studio

FL Studio doesn’t support native MIDI routing between channels, which makes integrating tools like Rendition a little tricky but totally doable. This guide walks you through how to send MIDI from Rendition to other plugins, both VST instruments and FL Studio's internal instruments.

VST to VST Setup (Rendition to another VST)

  1. Open the VST Wrapper for Both Plugins
    • Click the cogwheel icon in the upper-left of each plugin window to open the VST wrapper settings.

      Set MIDI Output on Rendition

    • In the wrapper settings for Rendition, set a MIDI Output Port (e.g., Port 1).

Set MIDI Input on Your Destination VST

    • Open the second VST plugin's wrapper.
    • Set the MIDI Input Port to match Rendition’s output (e.g., Port 1).

Done! Rendition is now controlling the second VST plugin.

VST to Internal Instrument Setup (Rendition to FL Studio Built-In Plugin)

Since FL Studio doesn’t allow internal instruments to receive MIDI input directly, you’ll need to use Patcher. Here’s how:

  1. Assign a MIDI Output Port in Rendition
    • Follow the steps above to set a MIDI Output Port in Rendition’s wrapper (e.g., Port 2).

      Add a Patcher Channel

    • In the Channel Rack, right-click on the channel with Rendition and choose "Patcherize".
    • This opens the Patcher interface with Rendition already wired in.

      Add Your Destination Plugin

    • In Patcher, right-click on the empty area and choose "Insert plugin".
    • Select the internal instrument you want to control (e.g., FLEX, 3xOsc, etc.).

      Connect the MIDI Signal

    • Drag from the “MIDI Out” node on Rendition to the “MIDI In” node on your internal instrument.
    • Also connect the “Audio Out” of your instrument to Patcher’s output.

Once wired up, Rendition will control the internal FL plugin through Patcher.

⚙️ Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Make sure you’re matching MIDI ports exactly—if Rendition outputs on Port 1, your destination must be set to input on Port 1.
  • When using Patcher, double-check all nodes are correctly connected (MIDI and Audio).
  • If you're not hearing sound, ensure your internal instrument has a loaded preset and the audio output is wired.
