Rendition - Setting the Key and Scale for Your Performance

This guide explains how to select a key and scale in Rendition and use the “Key Restrict” feature to stay in key no matter what you play.

Why Key and Scale Matter:

Rendition lets you define a musical key and scale that all your chords and arpeggios will follow. This makes sure everything you play sounds cohesive and on target, which is especially helpful for users who aren’t trained in music theory.

How to Set the Key and Scale:

  1. Look for the key selector in the upper left of the plugin window.
  2. Choose your root note (e.g., C, D, E…).
  3. Select a scale — options include Major, Minor, Dorian, Lydian, and more.
  4. We recommend starting with C Major (just the white keys!).

Enable “Key Restrict”:

  • Toggle the Key Restrict button on.
  • This limits playable notes to only those in the selected scale.
  • On your MIDI keyboard, keys outside the scale won’t trigger sounds.

This is especially useful if you're playing live or composing quickly — no more wrong notes!
