Layered - Automation & MIDI Mapping in DAWs

Automation and MIDI mapping turn Layered into a responsive, hands-on instrument. With just a few steps, you can control plugin parameters from your DAW or your MIDI controller.

MIDI Learn

MIDI Learn lets you assign knobs, sliders, and buttons on your hardware controller to parameters inside Layered.

  1. Right-click (or control-click) on the parameter you want to map.
  2. Select MIDI Learn.
  3. Move the control on your MIDI device.
  4. The mapping is saved instantly.

Now that control will adjust the parameter in real time.

Automating in Your DAW

  • All major DAWs (Ableton, Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools, FL Studio, etc.) recognize Layered’s parameters for automation.
  • Arm automation recording in your DAW, then tweak controls in Layered to record changes.
  • Draw automation curves in your DAW’s timeline for precise, repeatable movements.

Common Use Cases

  • Map a filter cutoff to a knob for live sweeps.
  • Automate envelope settings to change how sounds evolve across a track.
  • Control the Big Knob (linked to the FX Page) for dynamic transitions.
  • Assign global mix faders to a MIDI fader bank for real-time balancing.

Troubleshooting MIDI/Automation

  • Parameter not responding? Ensure your DAW track is set to send MIDI to Layered.
  • Controller not mapping? Check that MIDI input is enabled in your DAW.
  • Automation not saving? Confirm automation lanes are armed and recorded in the project.
