Layered - Troubleshooting Common Issues & Resource Management
Even the most polished plugin can run into problems depending on your setup. This article covers the most common issues with Layered and how to solve them quickly.
Plugin Not Showing in Your DAW
- Rescan Plugins: Most DAWs let you rescan for new plugins in preferences.
- Check Install Path: Ensure VST3/AU/AAX files were installed in the correct folder.
- DAW Support: Confirm your DAW supports VST3, AU, or AAX (GarageBand is not supported).
Activation & Licensing Problems
- Verify that Layered is installed through STACKS.
- Log into your Nightfox account and confirm license status.
- If activation fails, restart your DAW and try again.
High CPU Usage
- Reduce Voices: Disable unused layers to lighten load.
- Freeze/Bounce Tracks: Commit heavy patches to audio in your DAW.
- Simplify Effects: Use fewer global effects when CPU is strained.
Preset Issues
- Not Saving: Ensure you’re saving as a new user preset instead of overwriting a factory one.
MIDI or Automation Not Working
- Verify that your MIDI device is enabled in the DAW.
- Check that MIDI Learn was properly assigned.
- Make sure automation lanes are armed and recorded in your project.
