MacroMacro: Using the Big Knob and Mapping Parameters
The Big Knob is MacroMacro’s central control. It lets you move multiple effect parameters at once with a single gesture. This page explains how it works and how to assign parameters to it.
How the Big Knob Works
- Turning the Big Knob sends a control signal to every parameter you’ve assigned.
- Each parameter can have a different amount of movement.
- The colored segments inside the Big Knob show which parameters are currently assigned and how much control each one has. As you add more parameters, more colors appear.
This makes it possible to build complex, evolving changes across several effects with one control.
Assigning Parameters to the Big Knob
- Turn on the effect module you want to control.
Click the small button under to a parameter to give the Big Knob permission to move it.
Adjust the colored slice in the Big Knob to set how much control it has over that parameter:
- A larger slice means more movement.
- A smaller slice means subtler movement.
- Repeat for as many parameters as you like. Each will move according to its slice when you turn the Big Knob.
You can mix and match different control amounts—for example, give 100% control to Drive but only a small slice to Reverb size.
Mapping the Big Knob to a MIDI Controller
You can control the Big Knob from any hardware knob, fader, or mod wheel:
- Right-click the Big Knob.
- Choose Learn MIDI CC.
- Move the knob, fader, or mod wheel on your controller to complete the assignment.
Once mapped, moving your controller will move the Big Knob and all of its assigned parameters in real time.
Tips for Best Results
- Make sure the effect is powered on before assigning its parameters to the Big Knob.
- Use small slices for sensitive parameters like feedback or pitch for more musical results.
- Save your setup as a preset to recall your mappings instantly.
- Experiment with combining several parameters at once to discover unexpected textures.
